About me…..
I am a full-time artist and dance professor living in New York. I grew up in Michigan where I cultivated my skills as an artist and could not decide which art form to pursue, so I did everything. From the time I can remember I was painting, drawing, making things, interior decorating and designing. I ultimately consider myself a designer since those concepts and principals govern most art making. I have painted thousands of paintings of all shapes, sizes, mediums, and subjects. As a child I painted replicas of Dali, Warhol, and Michelangelo to “see if I could.” I love painting everything, literally everything. My process is always evolving and I’m always interested in using new materials.
After college (while I was a professional dancer trying to make a living) my first design job was as Technical Sketch designer in Technical Development at Kmart Corporation. I drew Tech Specs for Handbags and Women’s Accessories. I quickly moved up to an Infant/Toddler and Children’s Wear Graphics Designer and quickly promoted to a lead Trend & Product Development designer for the Joe Boxer brand. I designed patterns and products in every category of business for Kmart and Joe Boxer brands: Bath and Body, Fragrance, Back to School, Holiday, Automotive, Sporting Goods, Bedding, Seasonal and the list goes on. I loved walking through the stores and buying my own designs, it was very rewarding. I really enjoyed working in Trend and Product Development because it stretched my design capabilities on a daily basis.
I consider myself a designer of life. I see everything through an artistic lens and find the beauty. I love to renovate houses, repurpose old furniture, salvage thrift goods and bring them back to life! I love woodworking and learning new skills!
Presently, I continue to do a lot of graphic design for clients and work full-time as a Professor of Dance, my other passion in life. I also teach courses in dance on camera film making, using cameras, and using editing software. I am fully immersed in the arts on a daily basis and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am the President of the Dance Films Association that produces the infamous, Dance On Camera Festival at Lincoln Center every year.
The more I explore other areas of the arts, I have always continued to paint. Painting feels like home.
These are some of the fun designs I created while working for Joe Boxer and Kmart Trend and Product Development.
